About the Garden

Queen Elizabeth Meadows Garden is coordinated in partnership with the City of Surrey Parks Department since 2022. Following a City of Surrey policy and practice audit (2019) that identified challenges with garden governance, coordination, and community engagement in this low-income neighbourhood, CGR stepped in to support — engaging a dedicated garden executive committee, increasing community participation, and working toward a sustainable, independently run garden.
Built in 2017 by the neighbouring high school, the garden was created to bring food growing and literacy to students and the surrounding community. Over the years it grew into the only community garden serving the City Centre/Whalley area.
In Fall 2025, in partnership with the City of Surrey, the garden underwent a full renovation — adding new raised beds, an additional picnic table, and meaningful accessibility improvements including ground cover, new entrances, and gravel paved walkways.
The newly renovated garden reopened in Spring 2026, welcoming 21 new gardeners and 19 returning members into a refreshed and more accessible growing space!
