Surrey
South Surrey Community Garden

Located within an automotive dealership parking lot in South Surrey, this temporary community garden serves as a vibrant example of placemaking. Through the thoughtful use of vacant land and in partnership with White Rock Volkswagen, this garden not only provides access to growing fresh food for over 23 families but also cultivates a sense of community and connection.
In partnership with White Rock Volkswagen and Urban Systems Foundation, this project took shape in 2022. This 64-raised-bed community garden was brought to life through design, construction and ongoing coordination. The collaborative effort to complete the garden build in one day was made possible by the contributions of volunteers, garden members and community partners. From the design to ongoing management, this temporary Community Garden Roots space represents a shared commitment to community engagement and food access.
